How do I choose a funeral home?

Home » How do I choose a funeral home?

So, how do you go about choosing a funeral director? When is the best time to do so? After all, with over 50 funeral homes to choose from in the metropolitan area, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer number of decisions that need to be made. Add to that when you have lost a loved one…well, that’s probably not the thing you’re going to want to focus your attention on.

This is why many people are now deciding to pre-plan. They choose their funeral home prior to passing, and make many of the decisions that need to be made. However, the truth is that there are still many who don’t think about it at all. There are several things to bear in mind when choosing the best funeral director for you:

For many people, it is important to support local, family run businesses. The majority of the funeral homes in Western Australia are owned by international or national corporations, so if this is important to you, it is worth looking into.

Price is a key factor in choosing a funeral home. A funeral is always expensive, but many times it is not nearly as expensive as one might think. There are many ways to have a cost-effective funeral, although not all funeral homes will cater to this.

Location is important; however, it is not as important as perhaps it once was. Many people never even see the funeral home, so if you are planning on making use of the funeral home facilities, it is a good idea to think about how far you would like to drive.

Find someone you feel comfortable with. Arranging a funeral is always traumatic, so going through it with someone you trust and are comfortable with will make a huge difference to your overall experience.

Be aware that you don’t have to go with a package deal. While many funeral homes now have packages, we do not. We believe that you should pay only for the items you want. If you are being charged for services you don’t require, please be aware it is not necessary.

As funeral directors, our job is to look after you as best we can, and it is our honour and privilege to do so. Ensure you find someone who will do everything they can to make the farewell to your loved one as easy and beautiful for you as they can.
