What’s involved in a Cremation Service by Hetherington Funerals?

Planning a cremation in Perth can feel overwhelming, but at Hetherington Funerals, we’re here to help. We make the process as simple and stress-free as possible, taking away the burden for you and your family.

Preparation

Our cremation process begins with preparing the body. It’s common for families and friends to leave special tributes in the coffin, which will be cremated along with the body. Your funeral director will let you know what items are permissible.

Cemetary Transfer

The casket or coffin is taken to one of the local cemetaries like Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park, Karrakatta Cemetery, Fremantle Cemetery or Rockingham Regional Memorial Park. It is at these locations that the crematoriums have been built and the physical cremation takes place. Some families choose to have a service prior to going to the cemetery, either in a church, hall or chapel at the funeral home.

Ashes Collection

A few days after the cremation, the ashes will be ready for collection from the cemetery. The person who signed and authorised the paperwork must collect them, unless they provide a written note authorising someone else.

Final Placement

The last stage involves deciding the final placement of the ashes. Will they be interred at the cemetery, scattered to the winds, gently placed in the ocean, or kept at home in a personalised urn? This final decision allows the family to honour their loved one and lay them to rest.

We follow the Western Australian Government’s cremation approval process specified in the Cremation Act 1929.
