NZ born Māori or Polynesian families who have experienced a death in Western Australia can no doubt agree the process that occurs after death can be very different to New Zealand. This is especially so when the death is sudden or unexpected and the coroner needs to be involved. There can be a lengthy wait until a loved one is released into the care of the funeral home.

We can assist you whether the whanau pani wish to take their tupapaku (loved one) home for a few nights and hold a service here in Perth (Te urupu) with a burial or cremation, or return home to NZ to rest in a local cemetery or whanau urupa. Our team of NZ born Māori & Polynesian Funeral Directors have worked within NZ & Australian funeral services and can guide you each step of the way. We will ensure your taonga is cared for with nothing but pure respect & aroha.

Hetherington Funerals did an amazing job in helping organise and implement my Father in law’s Memorial Service. It was held at their Chapel in Maddington. We could not fault any of it, it was respectful, dignified and every thing my Mother in law requested. We had morning tea which was served beautifully and everything was well looked after and unobtrusively topped up (tea/coffee/orange juice etc.) Everything went so smoothly, not one hitch and the Chapel is such a calming, reflective place.
